Can you imagine spending tons of money on your roof then just getting it damaged by a severe storm? I know! It’s such a headache because you need to spend money again on repairs. Or worse, you might even need to replace your roof!
The truth is, we have no control over storms and hurricanes especially if it hits our area. We can only hope and pray that it doesn’t damage your property at all. Another thing we can do is to be prepared.
These days, it’s easier to know if a storm is about to hit your area or not. With that being said, we should know what to do or what not to do after a storm.
DO’s and DON’Ts

Don’t go up on your roof to inspect if there are any damages. It’s very dangerous especially if there are already visible damages on your roof like missing shingles, leaks, sagging roof, or damaged gutters. It might worsen the condition of your roof and it might cause an accident.
Do!
Examine your roof by inspecting the exterior of your home and documenting any obvious storm damage. From one of your windows, you may also have a good view of some of your roof. Keep a record of notes and/or take images; this may come in handy for any insurance issues. Any obvious evidence of storm damage, such as dented, torn, curled, or missing shingles, should be recorded.
Don’t!
Don’t hire people who’ll knock on your door and offer you the moon and the stars just so they can get your business. If it’s too good to be true, then chances are – it’s not true. Most of the time, they are fly-by-night roofers who are just interested in getting your money and not have your best interest in mind.
Do!
If you have a trusted insurance agent who’s sure to look out for your interests, call him/her to ask everything there is to know about your insurance policy so you know what is and isn’t covered. Same thing if you have a trusted roofer already, you can call them to do a thorough inspection on your roof. They can also help you with your insurance claims.
Don’t!
Don’t even think of doing repairs on your own. It takes years of roofing experience to be able to fix a seemingly simple roof leak, let alone fixing different types storm damage on your roof. If you have a trusted roofing company in mind, do contact them so they can do a professional inspection and repair.
